The Kilmarnock Volunteer Fireman’s Carnival may be the longest continually operating summer carnival in Virginia. Now in it’s in its 82nd year, this is the major funding event for this all volunteer fire company. Set on its own special grounds in Kilmarnock, families can enjoy amusement rides, games of chance and enjoy great grilled burgers and hot dogs plus the best homemade french fries around. Ride “Big Eli”, the Ferris wheel, or the carousel or play bingo. It’s hometown charm at its finest. Nine fun-filled nights capped off with a car or truck raffle at its conclusion.

Enjoy tasty ice cream treats and lemonade while exploring colonial history, games and crafts. Activities include writing with quill pens, making whirligigs and ball and cup toys, bowling with nine pins, dressing in colonial clothing and excavating “shoebox” archaeological sites. Tours of the 1735 church will be available, and the museum also features several hands-on areas for children. Families and children of all ages invited.

This special traveling exhibition from the Library of Virginia highlights Virginia plants from European contact through the present, the representation of plants in science and art, and the history of botanical exploration in Virginia. On display in the Bayne Center.

Chesapeake Academy’s 41st Annual Auction

May 5th – 41st Annual Auction at 6 p.m.
Auction items will include exciting trips, spectacular gifts, valuable services, and unique products for all ages and price points. BidPal technology will allow patrons to preview and bid online beginning in April, and will also allow event sponsors to advertise their services via live links.
Auction proceeds allow the school to provide educational programs that teach children to be excellent citizens and eager learners, award financial assistance for children who would otherwise be unable to attend, and offer children’s arts programs that are free and open to the public.
Chesapeake Academy relies on the many generous individuals and businesses of the Northern Neck for the success of this auction, and procurement is underway.
